It’s Christmas Eve, and Santa Claus is getting ready for his annual journey from the North Pole to households around the world. Upholding a decades-long tradition, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, known as NORAD, will once again track Santa’s route as he delivers presents to children before Christmas 2024, using an official map updated constantly to show his exact location at any given moment.
NORAD, the agency responsible for monitoring and defending the airspaces of the United States and Canada, has been tracking Santa’s journey every year since 1958. Its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command, managed the project for three years before NORAD took over.
Here’s what you need to know as the tracker follows Santa’s trip this Christmas.
Where is Santa right now?
NORAD updates its map in real time to show Santa’s current location during his flight around the globe. You can follow Santa’s progress on the live map on NORAD’s website or check occasional updates throughout the day on the agency’s Facebook page.
